Duties within the Service Desk Technical Analyst role include opening and tracking incident tickets and service requests via phone queue, event management utilities, and email, as well as documenting service requests, collecting enduser requirements, and troubleshooting production system issues to completion or for escalation within the team. The Service Desk Technical Analyst position participates in 24x7x365 shift work.

The Service Desk Technical Analyst is also responsible for the following activities.

  • Developing individual components or deliverables–such as scripts, policy configuration, testing, product installation, and product configuration.
  • Performing technology research.
  • Technical and business analysis–such as gathering requirements for system infrastructure and enduser applications.
  • Application and technical architecture testing.
  • Developing documentation and similar collateral–such as training, white papers, and internal processes.

The Service Desk Technical Analyst position requires an individual to demonstrate rapid learning around technology concepts such as virtualization, cloud and server-based computing, system architecture, programming languages, software installation, and networking. To pair with the technology concepts, the Service Desk Technical Analyst must demonstrate effective business writing, high-quality documentation standards, time management, meeting facilitation, along with speaking and presentation skills. The Technical Analyst must be able to proactively solve problems and seek help from more experienced team members when necessary. Lastly, the position requires a team player that seeks to supplement their skills through the use of client experience, self-study manuals, and point of need training.
